The Death of Common Sense

Simply love that title. I don't remember the author's name but he was on Nightline about two days ago and he was talking about the ridiculous lawsuit and administrative judge filed against a Korean couple and their dry cleaning business. The judge claims that he is entitled to 67 million dollars because the cleaners accidentally misplaced his pants and he didn't get them back in a timely manner....a whole two days. I can't believe that a judge would wasted court time (almost two years now) over an eight hundred dollar pair of pants. The death of common sense indeed! I was even more ashamed to find out that the judge is black. Is he cash poor or something??? Is he that hung up on ruining a working immigrant family that he will totally abuse his "power" to do so? It's just wild what people will do because they think they are better than someone else. That's just my opinion.

Last night I finally ended up yelling at Kalilah about her lack of participation in anything for the group project. She seems to think she's the only one with difficult classes. Not only have Jessica and I turned in every h.w. assignment with her name on it (even though she didn't contribute anything), now she is waiting until the last minute to put together the final group presentation. Of course she has "tude" now but I don't give a crap. If she didn't like the fact that I called her out on her laziness in the group then tough! Why should she get an A for doing F level work? I sent over the info I need on slides and said that between she and Jess put whatever they want in the presentation. I'm done with that. I typed up every h.w. assignment throughout the semester so the least, and I do mean least, Kalilah can do is the presentation elements since she missed the deadline for that too. Really.

I finally booked my ticket for South Korea! Sunglim says it's hot there already. I may make it in time for the Lantern Parade. The flight is just over 14 hours. That will be my longest trek to date. The furthest I've ever traveled by plane is to London. I can't wait to go. So much to do before then though. I have to buy a converter and adaptor, in addition to a really good dictionary. I do know how to say the basics like please and thank you but I better try to learn a few more words.

Lor's mom should be getting out of the hospital today. At least they ruled out a major illness so that's good. I'll talk to Lor tomorrow when she gets back from Chicago. I better go...busy day today with appts. More later but probably tomorrow.

Parents

What can I say except the title give it away. So my father is leaving for Japan today. So of course the only time he has to call is at 9am to tell me he's leaving for the airport. So I asked him if possibly he could spare some more information like what airline he will be traveling on and other pertinent information like flight info and my Uncle Harvey's phone number on the other end in case of emergency. Of course I was polite and didn't express my anger since I know it's not good to yell at someone getting on a plane but come on! My father really ticks me off. He is officially retired yet he couldn't seem to find the time to write out contact info for the announcement cards when I asked him to three weeks ago. Instead I get something scribbled in front of me in five minutes. I asked for flight info two weeks ago so that we here in the U.S. won't have to worry if a plane goes down but no...he has to wait until he's at the airport to provide it. CAFONE! I am convinced that some men truly don't understand why it is very dangerous to get on a plane and not tell anyone who cares where and when they are going. God forbid the plane goes down, nobody wants to be on the receiving end of a phone call from an airline official. O.K. i'm done venting about that. I hope he has a great trip. I will only get to see the inside of the Tokyo Airport for about three hours on a layover but hey...i'll get to see Japan soon too. Have an appointment at 11:45. I better get going. More later.

9:40p.m. Enjoyed a really good day of all about me. I got a haircut and also went for a manicure. It was a good day to escape even for a couple of hours. I also mailed out the graduation announcements so that's one less thing to do. It's feeling more and more real that I will actually graduate this month. A year and a half went by very quickly...like the blink of an eye. Goes to show you how time really does fly.

Followup

The last point I wanted to make about the MIT incident (post from two days ago) is that while many people want to cite ethics as a justification for firing someone obviously caught in a lie, at what point do we take a look at those who do the accusing? Wasn't it Newt Gingrich who led the charge against Bill Clinton citing that his "fling" with Monica Lewinsky merited impeachment? And oh yes...wasn't Gingrich having an affair while leading that charge? Some would say that's the pot calling the kettle black. So when it come to the story of Marilee and MIT, should she really have been fired for lying ten years ago on a resume? In this particular case I don't believe so. From all accounts, she was doing a great job. The punishment does not fit the alleged "crime".

On a separate note, somehow I managed to send email to someone who should not have received it. I could have sworn I went through all of my contact lists so that very thing could not occur. Apparently I missed one (probably because it's a variation of a list that I hardly use). Oh well...accidents happen. Can't worry about what the recipient thinks. All I could do was say sorry for the wayward email and keep it moving. No biggie. Just don't want some dude thinking that i'm thinking about him when i'm not. ..especially when he basically didn't even want to give me the time of day. You know how guys are. Don't sweat the small stuff Ang. O.K. It's late. I better go to sleep. More later in the morning...it's Tuesday! Good deal!

A Really Good Book CAN Make a Difference

Saturday and Sunday turned out to be pretty decent days. Saturday was a Costco run for the usual monthly staples. Of course, while in there I had to swing by to take a look at what books were out. Like I need more books right? I love reading however the past few months have not been ideal to do some leisurely reading with any form of consistency. As a result, the backlog of books I need to get to has multiplied. I'm six books into the delay. So, what's a girl to do? Add more! I ended up buying two more books and actually started one of them Saturday night and am actually hooked to it. The book, which is on the Times best seller list, is called, Eat, Pray, Love. Basically, it is one woman's account of discovering who she really is while traveling for a year to three countries...India, Indonesia, and Italy. It's interesting that I feel connected to many of the concepts the author has revealed quite candidly. I expect to finish the book by week's end. The second book was of course the friend in my head, Suze Orman's latest publishing...Women and Money. Her teachings have opened my financial mind exponentially! Still have to get to Jack Welsh's "Winning". Sunday was a quiet day and the highlight was taking a really long, hot, relaxing bath at my mother's house. I would take a bath every day if I could. I have realized that my thought process is sharper at the oddest times like 3am or while taking a bath. Well...have to get back into workout routine after being sidelined for almost two weeks. More later.
