I am so excited that in less than 24 hours we will have a new president! President Obama! Surreal. Today is the official observations of the life of the late Dr. King. I wish he had lived to see part of the fruit of his labor. I think Tavis Smiley captured part of the sentiment on one of the Sunday morning political shows I was watching. To paraphrase, Smiley said that what we will be witnessing on Inauguration Day is the down payment of the dream King had and that we still have lots of work to do. I agree. On another roundtable I don't remember who said it but another great point was made. The point was that young children now and those born in the future will never be able to say that a "minority" can't be president. Their legacy is knowing that they were born in a time when a person of non-white persuasion succeeded in doing just that. Going back to Smiley's thought...we do still have much work to do. With the exception of the seat in Illinois, we still have an all white Senate.
I have so much to say but no time since I have to go do laundry. I took tomorrow as a personal day. I want to watch wall to wall coverage of this very special day. I wish I had some friends who would have been willing to come to Bklyn to watch with me but nobody that I know of was willing. Kind of makes me a bit sad that my "friendship infrastructure" isn't there. I will continue to try to remain optimistic on all personal fronts. O.K. better log off and get moving. Change is coming! I'm feel so proud to be witness to yet another moment that will go down in history.
