The Dish on the Gala (and other things)
Slow start to Saturday morning for me....it's already almost 1pm in the afternoon! LOL. Still having problems with my right foot...the dreaded self diagnosed heel spur. Got a call from Miriam this morning. Always good to hear from her. She recommended added the supplement MSM to my daily routine. I will research today. I believe it's usually paired with glucosime (sp)...to help joint function. Definitely need that. LOL. Headed out the door in a few so I better be quick with this post.
The gala was very cool. Even though I was asked to help with so many things (as Miriam and I call it we are helpful doers), I still managed to get in two watermelon martinis and mingle a bit. I met some really nice volunteers as well as guests who bid on silent as well as live auction items. As crazy as it seems, I found myself bidding on one silent auction item myself. Crazy considering that I am financially challenged and barely earn any income right now. The item, which was hidden amount framed sports memorabilia, was a framed Barack Obama photo taken on Inauguration Day paired with an original Inauguration invitation (printed locally right here in good old Brooklyn, USA by Precise) and two Presidential patches. The display is framed beautifully. My first thought was my father would love that. My second thought was I WOULD LOVE THAT! So I wrote my name down on the auction sheet and kept a watchful eye on the bid sheet. About three minutes before bids closed, I saw a handsome black guy writing on the sheet. I was like.."oh no...I've been outbid". Increments were $25 dollars. I thought for a minute and said to myself "this piece is meant for me". With that, I wrote my name once again. Literally as I was finishing writing my phone number, the silent auction moderator was in my section and said to me..."you are the last bid on that item". I was like..."Wow...it's mine! Wonderful". The guy I outbid gave me a wink and a smile paired with one of those looks like I can't believe I just got outbid by a girl. Later, I was talking to one of the folks at Table 16 (her name is Barbara). She bid on jewelery in silent auction as well as travel in the live auction. She asked me if I bid on anything and I was telling her about the Obama piece. She said I found a treasure! Turns out she was at the Bush Inauguration eight years ago and says the value on the invitations increase. She told me to never part with what I have. I don't intend to. I'm going to LOAN it to my father and make it very clear to him that I own this piece until the day I die. I will leave it to whomever and the rule is that it must remain in the family forever. I am starting my own legacy whether I have a family of my own or not. I better go since I'm taking it over to his apartment now. So much more to share about the gala but I'll save it for tomorrow or Monday when I have computer access again.
Oh...almost forgot Mother's Day. While I believe every day is mother's day...I did get the carpet cleaner my mother was eying over the last four months. Why not. I figure, while I never get surprises, it's always good to create them for others. For that is my purpose here right? OK better go. Later.
